This ranking is based on how recruiters rated each school on 21 attributes, their future plans to recruit at the school, and the number of survey respondents who said they had recruited recently at the school. The University of Michigan took the number one spot this year, a rank which Tuck has held in three of the six years this ranking has been published.

The Journal's report had many great things to say about Tuck and offered some good insights and information about what recruiters think of the other leading programs. One notable quote described students at Tuck as "an excellent mix of firepower, practical experience and humility."

Recruiters named Tuck among the top three schools in General Management, Strategy and Corporate Social Responsibility, and among the top ten in Marketing, Operations Management and Entrepreneurship. Of special significance, Tuck ranked as the top school for recruiting MBAs with high ethical standards. Tuck was also favorably ranked in terms of offering practical business experience as part of the program and generating graduates that are CEO material.

The top ten schools in the Journal's ranking include:

1. University of Michigan (Ross)
2. Dartmouth College (Tuck)
3. Carnegie Mellon University (Tepper)
4. Columbia University
5. University of California, Berkeley (Haas)
6. Northwestern University (Kellogg)
7. University of Pennsylvania (Wharton)
8. University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (Kenan-Flagler)
9. Yale University
10. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan)

As always, we are guided by our goal of offering the very best MBA experience in the world. Good rankings are merely a by-product of our efforts to give our students an outstanding educational experience, and rankings will never govern our efforts.

The full report appears in The Wall Street Journal Guide to the Top Business Schools 2007, published by Simon & Schuster. The special rankings report can be found online at www.careerjournal.com. For more information on all of the MBA program rankings, visit www.tuck.dartmouth.edu/rankings. The latter was the basis
of the automobile license plate I had my second year, LR2DAY,which
now hangs framed above my desk.

John had the insight and courage to question unexamined and overextended
beliefs, and the burden of spreading his wisdom to those around him. These
things comprised his humanity for me, and I admire him greatly because I
saw no small amount of myself in it.

What I loved about John's teachings was that they were not merely
principles of business administration; rather, they were principles of
how to live. In case you did not receive my previous email, and have not heard otherwise about this sad event, Professor John Shank passed away on Thursday, March 30, in California. We invite you to come together at Tuck on May 21 and remember a truly great professor.

Professor Shank affected many students, faculty members, friends, and business leaders over the course of his life and academic career, and we would like to remember him with a service at Tuck. The memorial service in his memory will take place on Sunday, May 21, at the Tuck School (Cohen Great Hall, in Whittemore). There will be an open brunch available in Pepsi Dining Hall from 10-11, and the service will run from 11:30am-1:00 pm. A small group of John's friends and colleagues are organizing the
event.

Please RSVP to this account so that we can estimate attendance. As this is Tuck reunion weekend, we know that many alumni will be in Hanover already; we hope that the timing of this service fits your travel plans as well.

Finally, many people have asked about sending cards and notes that speak to John's influence. We are suggesting that people send hard copy of any such notes to:

Ms. Marcia Diefendorf
100 Tuck Hall
Tuck School
Dartmouth College
Hanover, NH 03755

We will assemble the writings into a book and present them to John's family at the memorial service. Please get your thoughts to us no later than May 12th.

I will keep you updated on any further developments for the memorial service, and will also send out another reminder as we get closer to this event. We look forward to welcoming you to Tuck on May 21 to help us remember our colleague and friend.

Sincerely,

Paul Danos

Prof. Shank (??? - 2006)

Some sad news has just come in from Dean Danos....

From: Tuck Alumni Services <Tuck.alumni.services@dartmouth.edu>
Date: Apr 4, 2006 8:45 AM
Subject: Message from Dean Danos
To: Alastair Bor <bor@tuck2000.com>

I am deeply saddened to report that our colleague and friend Professor
John Shank passed away Thursday morning in California.

Professor Shank touched the lives of thousands of students, faculty
members and business leaders over the course of his academic career at
Harvard, Tuck, Ohio State, Babson, and the Naval Post Graduate School.
John joined Tuck in 1984 and just recently retired as the Noble
Professor of Managerial Accounting and Management Control, Emeritus.

Many graduates over his twenty year career at Tuck will remember his
incredible presence in the classroom and his amazing intellect. He
published 16 books and wrote more than 100 articles for leading
journals in accounting, finance and management. You will be happy to know this is a story of inspiration - things get tough, but through perseverance there is triumph. The road is not easy, but it's worth it and forces introspection. There is a very strong message encouraging more diversity (especially women) to pursue business education and fight MBA stereotypes.

Most classmates who have heard of the book ask me, "Am I in it????"
The marketer in me (of course) wants to say, "Well, you'll have to read it to find out!"
But the answer is this: all of the characters are fictional.
They are conglomerates of the different personalities I met along the way and/or complete figments of my creativity. So, while you may see parts of yourself in a character (and you will definitely recognize many of our experiences from b-school!)everything is truly fiction.

The book cover describes The Blushing MBA like this:
"Enjoy a funny sneak-peek at life inside the Ivy League from someone who’s been there and lived to tell the tale...The Blushing MBA is an inspirational tribute to anyone who has ever considered – or dared to enter – college, graduate school, or the wild world of business."

The book is targeted to young women 18+, but all the details can be found at www.TheBlushingMBA.com. I've marketed it to women's organizations, colleges, college WIB clubs, women in school, businesswomen, MBA mentors, etc...

Please email or call me at any time with questions. And I hope the years have been good to you!

Happy Holidays,
Fedra Pouideh T'00

Welcome to the Tuck2000.com blog

This is an experiment in Blogging.
